About Us

9/26/13

"I have always had a thing for travel, like the slow murmur of a subdued addiction."

When I was 15 I read Jack Kerouac's On the Road and swooned, I drooled over poet Rimbaud's vagabonding journeys through the European country sides and his stories of sleeping on beaches drunk on absinthe with his lover, I listened to Jimi Hendrix's “Little Wing” and wanted to go "riding with the wind", I studied Rolf Potts vagabonding like it was my future and my destiny. I loved the idea of being free.

Long-term travel has never just been a notch on my bucket list or something I simply wanted to do someday. It has always and still remains something that I must/need to do and want to continue doing all throughout my life.

I don't like to knock other peoples life styles because I feel every one has there own path rightfully so, however I don't see myself living a life working more than I am learning, experiencing, and feeling the world. For me life is not about making money, it is about making every moment less and less regrettable to your future self.

I also understand that we cannot make life perfect and sometimes we have to suck up our pride and what we want to do, whether that may be because of the momentary hand the world has dealt us or our own fears about what will happen if we finally hand ourselves what we always wanted. However, when those random times come and everything in your life aligns perfectly I prefer to not remain blinded by the outside stresses that are only relevant conventional society. I rather be hiking The Mist Trail in Yosemite NP or driving on Highway 1 through Big Sur, but that’s just me.

I didn't make this blog to tell people how to live or shout in their faces "Quit your dull 9 to 5 and explore!" I don't want to tell anyone how to live their lives or try and tell them what is going to make them happy. I just wanted to share my experience as honestly as possible with no gimmicks, no catches and no tips. Just the raw truth and a cool story or two.

So on to the basics:

Lola<33
I'm Frolick and I will be doing most of the writing on here. I’m the ripe old age of 20 something and I have a beautiful kitty named Lola who I am going to miss dearly. I went to college and got my Bachelors in English and I'm striving to be a professional writer. My boyfriend / best friend is the cutie you will be seeing on here with me. He is a professional electrician and has a super hairless and worm-like kitty named Basil who he will miss dearly.

Wormy Guy
I assume you've already guessed that Frolick and Finnley are not our real names. We chose to use these nicknames as a means to inspire and remind us to be the best and truest versions of ourselves on our upcoming adventure. The nickname Frolick stems from my love to frolick. I freaking LOVE to frolick! - by myself, with friends, with my brother, with little creatures, under sunshine, during a rain storm, in a field, in the street, on a roof, on a mountain, in the ocean, for my kitty, for the earth, for fun! :) The word even tickles me. The nickname Finnley comes from my favorite of his childhood stories. He used to sit in a tree by himself and play his harmonica like a little Huckleberry Finn. Not only that, but he was pretty much the most adventurous little boy I’ve ever heard of beside the actual character.

Over a year ago we took a trip to California together and what basically confirmed my infatuation with travel, sparked Finnley’s. Since that trip I have been trying to persuade Finnley to go on a longer trip with me. It took about a year, but a few months ago he finally decided that he was ready and gave me the “ok” to start planning.

So now here we are 8 days and counting until our departure 10/7/13 and I've never been more terrified and excited about something in my life.

Wish us luck :)

-Frolick
